Buffalo Soldier

Have you heard of the Buffalo soldiers?

These valiant African American soldiers fought in the Indian Campaigns after the Civil War, Spanish American War, and WWI.  They served in separate cavalry and infantry units that were created by the Army Organization Act of 1866.

The initial units were:

  • 9th Cavalry Regiment
  • 10th Cavalry Regiment
  • 24th Infantry Regiment
  • 25th Infantry Regiment
  • Second 38th Infantry Regiment

Their contributions are recognized on National Buffalo Soldier Day, which is July 28th.
