132nd Infantry Regiment, Illinois National Guard, Americal Division
The Americal was part of a new system of triangular divisions (three regiments) designed for World War II (1939-1945), replacing the square divisions that had been used previously. When they were sent to the Pacific, the Americal was the first United States Army Division to conduct offensive operations in the Second World War. They trained at New Caledonia and served at:
- Guadalcanal Campaign
- Bougainville Campaign
- Valencia-Ormoc Campaign on Leyte
- Buria and Ticao Operation
