The Battle of Saint Quentin (săn-kahn-tăn) Canal began on September 29, 1918, as part of the Allied Hundred Days Offensive. Coordinated with other Allied attacks, the objective was to break through the German Hindenburg Line. The Hindenburg Line consisted of a series of heavily fortified defenses through Eastern France. Germany used Saint Quentin Canal as part of the Hindenburg Line.
As the Allies continued to break German defenses at other places along the Hindenburg Line, German high command became convinced they would no longer be able to win the war.
