Civil War Campaign Medal
The concept of campaign medals for the Army was first approved by the Assistant Secretary of War in 1905.
The Civil War Campaign Medal was one of the first medals approved campaign service medals. It was awarded to members of the U.S. military for service between April 15, 1861, and April 9 1865. The medal was designed by F. D. Millett.
Erasmus Corwin Gilbreath qualified for this medal for his service in the 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, though he died seven years before this medal was authorized.
