Air Medal
Robert O. Harder was awarded an Air Medal on May 28, 1970 for showing, “outstanding airmanship and courage…in successful accomplishment of important missions under extremely hazardous conditions.”
The Air Medal was established in 1942 and is given to any person serving with the U.S. Armed Forces in any capacity who distinguishes themselves by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in a combat or non-combat action. The colors of the ribbon, ultramarine blue and golden orange, are the original colors of the Army Air Corps.
