1st Marine Division Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

The 1st Marine Division patch was created in 1943 to recognize the sacrifices and victory of the Marines that fought at the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. Following actions at the battles of New Britain and Cape Gloucester in 1943/44, the division faced its most intense combat to date at Peleliu.
