Tarawa Island.

This photo, entitled "Tarawa Island, a photo taken by Frank Filan, Associated Press photographer on assignment to the wartime photographic pool, gained for him one of the two Pulitzer Prizes awarded for news photography, announced in New York, May 1. It shows dead Japs strewn about a blasted Japanese pillbox on Tarawa Island in the South Pacific, after the invasion of the island by U.S. Marines.
